Storm City, or Pie in the Sky?
There has been a rumour of a large regeneration project in the center of Blackpool nicknamed Storm City, with reports of land purchased in the area between Rigby Road and Central Drive.
From what I can gather, the development will be an “indoor entertainment complex”and will include:
- A “London Eye” type ride
- A seated arena
- Four world class hotels
- Rooftop Gardens
- Four themed entertainment areas
- Shopping areas
It sounds great, and would do the town a world of good with the other recent developments apparently falling through. Unfortunately, it has been reported to me that the proposal is unrealistic and does not have an official backing or planning permission.
It looks like the development could well be another carrot leading the aging Blackpool donkey into hope of our once proud town being taking into the 21st century.
At this time however, Storm City doesn’t look anything more than a storm in a teacup.

It has all gone a bit quiet with this one, it was all over the papers at one point.
