The night of Sunday 3rd September offered just about the right conditions to start the World Fireworks Championships right here in Blackpool.

105.4 Century FM hosted the show and kept the crowd entertained while the organisers decided if the wind was bad enough to cancel it. After a mass exodus from north of North Pier to South of North Pier, the party started.

Tonights fireworks were presented by Croatia, who were enthusiastically introduced by the Century FM DJ. Described as an “Exploration of Colour, Light and Music”, the display exploded to the widely varying musical sounds of “Flash Gordon”, classical tracks and everything in between.

The display was immense and had appeared to have everyone captivated. I am not an experienced firework watcher, although I could not imagine a more extravagant performance. The highlight for me was the waterfall explosions that appeared to drip from the sky, along with the traditional exploding rockets that exploded towards the crowd in truly 3D effect.

Congratulations and thanks go to the Croatia team for a fantastic display. The remaining firework teams will display their skills from Blackpool North Pier every Friday in September and, depending on weather, will aim to start at around 8:30pm.
